At Manchester-Shortsville Central School District, we are committed to keeping families connected and informed. ParentSquare is our primary communication tool, allowing you to receive important updates, messages from teachers, event reminders, and more—all in one convenient place. This guide will walk you through setting up your ParentSquare account and customizing your notification preferences to stay informed without being overwhelmed. Whether you want real-time updates or a daily summary, you’re in control. Follow the steps below to get started and ensure you never miss a moment.

  • Download the App: Available on iOS and Android.
  • Sign In: Use the email or phone number registered with the school.
  • Activate Your Account: Follow the email or text invitation sent by your school.

Managing Your Notification Settings

ParentSquare allows you to control how and when you receive different types of messages. There are three main notification categories: Urgent Alerts, General Announcements, and School Alerts.

  • Urgent Alerts include time-sensitive information such as emergency notices and attendance updates—these cannot be turned off to ensure you receive critical communications.
  • General Announcements cover everyday messages like school news, reminders, and teacher communications. You can choose to receive these instantly, as a daily summary (Digest), or turn them off entirely (excluding emergencies).
  • School Alerts are specific to your student, such as Smart Alerts and other important updates. You can toggle these on or off as needed. By customizing these settings, you can stay informed without being overwhelmed by notifications throughout the day

 

To change your notification setting, follow the guide below:

On the Website:

  1. Click your name in the top right corner and select "My Account."
  2. Click "Notification Settings."
  3. Under General Announcements & Messages, choose:
    • Off – No notifications (except for emergency alerts).
    • Instant – Get every notification in real-time.
    • Digest (Recommended) – Get one summary notification per day.
  4. Adjust School Alerts (On or Off) as needed.

On the Mobile App:

  1. Tap the menu (☰) icon in the top left corner.
  2. Select "Account" → "Notifications."
  3. Choose how you want to be notified (Email, Text, or App Notifications).
  4. Select Instant or Digest for each method.
  5. To use the same settings across all schools, turn Custom Settings OFF.
  6. To customize notifications for different schools, turn Custom Settings ON.
