Director of Transportation:
Thomas Meilutis

The Transportation Department is responsible for providing safe and efficient transportation to Manchester-Shortsville Central School District students. The district’s fleet includes over 20 buses and vehicles which regularly undergo rigorous inspection and testing to ensure we operate as safely as possible.

Red Jacket drivers meet all Federal, New York State D.M.V., and New York State Department of Education licensing requirements. All district vehicles, that transport students, meet New York State D.O.T. requirements. Our vehicle technicians have achieved a 100% first-time inspection score for over 8 years! This is a testament to their skill and professionalism.

If you have any questions regarding district transportation, please do not hesitate
to contact us at 585-289-3925. If you wish to change the transportation information of your
student after the registration deadline, please utilize the form available below.

As a reminder, when the district is closed due to weather, we do not provide
transportation to any other school.

Bus Safety Update

School buses remain the safest form of student transportation in the United States. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), students are approximately 70 times more likely to arrive safely to school on a bus than in a car. Despite this strong safety record, recent data and guidance from both state and national agencies highlight that seat belt usage provides an additional, critical layer of protection.

The safety of our students is our top priority. This year, we are strongly requesting that all Red Jacket school bus passengers wear a seat belt while riding the bus. You may have seen videos on social media or in the news showing students being tossed around inside a bus during a crash. Wearing a seat belt helps prevent this, protecting both your child and those around them.

To ensure the safety and efficiency of student transportation, please review the following important guidelines for the upcoming school year:

1.    Age Requirement

  • Students must be at least 4 years old to be eligible for transportation.
  • Children who are 3 years of age will not be transported.

2.    Seat Belt Policy

  • All RJ school bus passengers are required to wear a seat belt while riding the bus.
  • This safety measure helps reduce the risk of injury in the event of an accident.
  • We appreciate your support in reinforcing this rule with your child.

3.    Pick-Up and Drop-Off Procedures

  • We make every effort to provide door-side pick-up and drop-off for UPK and Kindergarten students.
  • However, in some situations, this may not be possible.
  • When needed, please ensure an adult is available to assist your child in crossing the street safely.

4.    Bus Stop Inactivity

  • If a student does not ride the bus for five consecutive school days, their bus stop will be removed from the route.
  • To reinstate the stop, a parent or guardian must contact the bus garage at 585-289-3925 at least 24 hours in advance of when transportation is needed.

5.    Transportation Changes

  • Any changes to your child’s transportation plan must be communicated by 10:00 AM on the day the change is needed.
  • All change requests should be sent directly to your child’s school office…
