Seniors Brooklyn Vienna and Micah Harshfield Honored with 2024 Male and Female Athletes of the Year
May 29, 2024 – Red Jacket High School is proud to announce that seniors Brooklyn Vienna and Micah Harshfield have been named the 2024 Male and Female Athletes of the Year. This prestigious honor, awarded annually, is voted on by their fellow coaches and is a testament to the athletes' exceptional dedication, skill, and character.
The selection criteria for this accolade encompass being a multi-sport athlete, serving as a positive role model, maintaining good academic standing, and exhibiting exemplary sportsmanship. Brooklyn Vienna and Micah Harshfield have excelled in all these areas, making them exemplary representatives of Red Jacket High School's values and spirit.
In addition, both athletes will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship check, generously contributed by Dr. Michael Ternisky. Dr. Ternisky, a 1957 standout athlete and proud RJ Alumni, has been a longtime supporter of this award. This year, he has chosen to contribute the scholarship in honor of Mike Pappert, further highlighting the sense of community and legacy at Red Jacket High School.
Brooklyn Vienna, recognized for her outstanding performance in soccer, basketball, and track, has consistently demonstrated leadership on and off the field. Her academic achievements and positive attitude have made her a beloved figure among peers and faculty alike.
Micah Harshfield has shown remarkable talent in football, wrestling, and baseball. His dedication to his sports, combined with his commitment to academic excellence and sportsmanship, has earned him the respect and admiration of his teammates and coaches.
Red Jacket Athletic Director and Dean of Students, Shannon Brown, expressed her admiration for the recipients, stating, "Both Brooklyn and Micah embody the true spirit of athleticism, scholarship, and pride. Their hard work and perseverance serve as an inspiration to all students at Red Jacket."
