Red Jacket High School Students Visit the Golisano Institute for Business and Entrepreneurship

Students from Red Jacket High School recently visited the Golisano Institute for Business and Entrepreneurship in Brighton, where they got a firsthand look at what studying business is all about. The Golisano Institute generously provided charter bus transportation and lunch, making the entire experience even more enjoyable and accessible for our students. The field trip gave them the chance to explore a real-world business environment and learn from experienced professors.

When the group arrived, the President of the Golisano Institute welcomed them and explained the mission of the Institute, which is dedicated to helping students from small districts like ours succeed in business. The admissions team provided helpful information and gave students a taste of what a typical day looks like at the school.

The students participated in classroom presentations led by two professors. One professor, Graham Anthony, was brought in from RIT and spoke about the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in business. This was especially interesting since the Golisano Institute recently launched a one-year certification program focused on AI. The second professor introduced students to Applied Economics, a subject many of them had not studied before, in a clear and easy-to-understand way.

The Institute’s campus is designed with modern facilities that encourage collaboration. Students were able to see how classrooms use advanced technology like AI simulations to prepare students for real-world business challenges. They also learned about the importance of developing their own business ideas, with support from professors who help guide students toward launching their own ventures.

One unique aspect of the school is its emphasis on dressing in business casual attire, which is part of preparing students for the professional world. For students who may not have business clothing, there is even a consignment shop on campus to help them get what they need.

Throughout the day, students were able to interact with professors and staff in a friendly, supportive environment. The sense of community was clear, with faculty members regularly greeting students and creating a welcoming atmosphere.

The trip also included lunch, with the students enjoying pizza while chatting with faculty members. It was a great way to wrap up the day and reflect on the experiences they had.

At Red Jacket High School, we offer electives in business throughout the year that help prepare our students in grades 9-12 for a future in business, whether they plan to start their own company or work in the field. The field trip to the Golisano Institute was a valuable resource that took hands-on learning to the next level, offering students the chance to engage directly with experts, explore real-world business applications, and experience advanced programs designed to prepare them for future success in the business world.

Overall, the visit to the Golisano Institute was an exciting and educational experience for our students. They got to see what studying business looks like in a hands-on, real-world setting, and many left feeling inspired about the possibilities for their future careers in business.
