School Calendar Update

Dear Red Jacket Families and Team:

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!

It was brought to my attention yesterday that our school calendar is incorrect. While working with the Red Jacket Faculty Association to provide December 23rd off for everyone, we agreed to return on January 2nd rather than January 3rd. When we were establishing the calendar last Spring, we did not realize January 2nd was a legal holiday this year.

At the next Board meeting, I will be recommending that the Board approve an updated calendar that includes January 2nd off as a legal holiday. For your planning purposes however, I am providing you with this communication now.

Our students are legally required to have a minimum of 180 school days. This change will give them 181 instructional days and provide us with one snow day. If we need to use more snow days, we will need to utilize our "Emergency Make-up Days" to provide instruction on April 3rd, then April 4th and so on. Please be cognizant of this when making vacation plans in April.

I apologize for the error and for any inconvenience this may have caused.

With Red Jacket PRIDE and Gratitude,
Charlene Dehn
Superintendent of Schools
