Good nutrition is essential to learning and the Red Jacket Central School District does not want any child to go hungry in school. Our goal is to serve nutritionally balanced meals to our students at breakfast and lunch. We encourage all families that qualify to participate in the National School Lunch Free and Reduced Price Meal Program to insure that their child is adequately fed at school. For those who do not qualify for the program, it is their responsibility to see that their children have a lunch prepared at home or money to purchase a lunch at school.
We are a self-supporting entity within the school district and cannot incur unpaid charges. Therefore, we have instituted the following procedure:
- K-5 students lacking sufficient cash to purchase a school lunch will be able to charge 3 lunches with the expectation that the charges will be paid immediately. NO CHARGES WILL BE ACCEPTED AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL/HIGH SCHOOL CAFETERIA.
- A student with 3 outstanding charges will be provided a sandwich and milk and will be charged for this lunch until payment has been received
- Parents will be notified when 3 charges have accumulated. It is expected that all incurred charges will be paid immediately by sending cash, check or money to the school with the child for payment to the cashier during lunch OR by mailing a check or money order to the above address.
- If the charge balance has not been paid within a reasonable time from the date of receipt of the charge notification and a pattern of not providing a bag lunch or money for lunch for a child is noted, the Department of Social Services will be appraised of the situation.
At every step of the way, we strongly encourage all families that may qualify to apply for free or reduced price meals at any time to help stretch food budgets and insure that their children are adequately fed each day at school.
